Easing Oil Bills, Pending Xi US Visit Buoy Wall Street Pre-Bell; Asia, Europe Up

Wall Street futures pointed solidly higher pre-bell Monday on easing petroleum prices, and after China disclosed President Xi Jinping will visit the US from Sept. 23 through Sept. 25 and meet with President Donald Trump.

In the futures, the S&P 500 rose 0.7%, the Nasdaq inclined 1.1% and the Dow Jones was up 0.8%.

West Texas Intermediate crude oil traded down 2.7% to $93.52 a barrel in morning action.

The VanEck Semiconductor fund (SMH) traded up 1.8% pre-bell, after logging a 2.2% rise on Friday.

Asian exchanges traded higher overnight, while European bourses rallied midday on the continent.

Investors look forward to a relatively light week for economics reports, although the S&P Global flash US composite purchasing managers index, or PMI, for September is slated for a Wednesday morning release.

Greenland Energy (GLND), a micro-cap oil-driller active on the island, rose 154% pre-bell after President Trump over the weekend announced a pending security agreement between the US, Denmark, and Greenland.

Costco Wholesale (COST), Cintas (CTAS) and AutoZone (AZO) plan to report earnings this week.

On the economic calendar is the Chicago Fed National Activity Index for August at

8:30 am ET.

Federal Reserve Chicago president Austan Goolsbee is slated to speak on Monday.

In premarket action, Bitcoin traded at $84,334, and 10-year US Treasuries offered 4.96%. Spot gold commanded $4,350 an ounce.
