Canada CPI Excluding Gasoline Rises to Six-Month High

Dow Jones

09:14 ET--The headline total and core measures of Canada inflation in August were mostly unchanged from the previous month. One gauge suggests there is a pickup in underlying prices. CPI excluding gasoline accelerated in August, to 2.4%, or the highest level since February -- which was prior to the start of the U.S.-Iran war. The non-gasoline items driving up prices in August from a year ago were travel, rent and restaurant food. Traders have priced in up to four rate increases over the next 12 months, on worries about inflation and hawkish messaging this month from Bank of Canada Gov. Tiff Macklem.
