Swarmer (SWMR) is buying Ratel Robotics for $224 million in a cash-and-stock deal, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday, citing the company's chairman, Erik Prince.

Ratel, based in Ukraine, makes unmanned ground vehicles, and Texas-based Swarmer builds artificial-intelligence software allowing drones to coordinate in swarms, the Journal said.

Prince, a former leader of the private military contractor Blackwater, said it plans to continue to acquire and collaborate with military firms whose products are battlefield-tested, the report said.

Swarmer did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
