Caleres Shares Gain on Lift to FY Outlook, Higher 2Q Profit

Shares of Caleres rose after the company lifted its full-year outlook and reported a surge in profit in the second quarter.

The stock was up 4.7% to $12.59 as of midday Wednesday. The stock is up 3.5% this year.

The footwear company on reported a profit of $58.6 million, or $1.71 a share, compared with a profit of $6.7 million, or 20 cents a share, a year earlier.

Stripping out certain one-time items, adjusted earnings were 47 cents a share. Analysts polled by FactSet were expecting 37 cents a share.

Revenue rose to $695.5 million, up from $658.5 million. Analysts were expecting $702.5 million in revenue.

Revenue growth was boosted by 24% increase in brand portfolio sales and a 57% increase in international sales.

Caleres lifted its full-year guidance, projecting adjusted earnings between $1.50 and $1.65 a share, raising the low end from $1.40. It continues to expect consolidated sales growth of low- to mid-single-digits.

Analysts expect full-year adjusted earnings of $1.62 a share.

For the current third-quarter, the company guided for low-single-digit net sales growth, with a reported profit of between 62 cents and 70 cents a share.
