Shares of MapQuest owner System1 continued to rise on favorable download trends after President Trump's executive order to change the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America.

Apple updated its Maps application to show Lake America to many users and Google has said users in the U.S. will see Lake America.

Shares were recently up 35% to $5.18. The stock closed at $1.89 on Aug. 28. Since then it posted multiple double-digit gains and heavy trading volume.

System1 said Tuesday that MapQuest has surpassed 2 million new users of its iOS and Android apps over the past week. It said "The milestone was driven by new users continuing to embrace and support MapQuest's decision to keep familiar historical geographic names for lakes and gulfs on its mapping platform."

On Aug. 31, System1 said Mapquest usage was 50 times the normal rate and that Mapquest had become the eighth-ranked overall free app in the U.S. Apple App Store.

MapQuest went public in 1999 and was sold to America Online Inc. in 2000 for about $1.1 billion of stock. System1 bought MapQuest in 2019.

System1's other operations include CouponFollow, Startpage and IntentStream. The company's second-quarter revenue was $30.2 million, down from $78.1 million a year earlier. It said results reflected its reduction of marketing activity tied to search monetization across its owned-and-operated properties.
