CMS has announced that its innovative drug candidate, CMS-D001 tablets, received a clinical trial approval notice from China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) on September 11, 2026, with the formal notification being received on September 14, 2026.

This approval authorizes the company to proceed with clinical trials aimed at evaluating the efficacy and safety of CMS-D001 in treating systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). CMS-D001 is a highly selective TYK2 (tyrosine kinase 2) inhibitor, and TYK2 is a key member of the JAK kinase family, which plays a critical role in immune cell signaling.

By specifically inhibiting TYK2 activation, CMS-D001 blocks the cellular signaling pathways of inflammatory cytokines such as IL-23, IL-12, and type I interferons, thereby suppressing the pathological processes of autoimmune diseases. Notably, this targeted approach minimizes the impact on other JAK family kinases, offering therapeutic benefits while reducing potential side effects.

Compared to pan-JAK inhibitors, CMS-D001's high selectivity means it has a lower effect on other JAK family kinases, enabling sustained efficacy and a better safety profile for long-term disease management. When contrasted with injectable biologics currently on the market, this oral therapy offers superior patient compliance and avoids issues related to anti-drug antibodies.

If CMS-D001 successfully obtains market approval, it will provide new treatment options for SLE patients in China. Furthermore, it is expected to generate significant synergies with the company's existing products, such as the innovative methotrexate injection, leveraging CMS's established expert network and market resources in the rheumatology and autoimmune disease sector to strengthen its competitive position and market standing.
