Data released by the China Automotive Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance reveals that domestic power battery installations reached 79.0 GWh in August, reflecting a 5.9% increase month-on-month and a substantial 26.3% rise compared to the same period last year.

Breaking down the August figures, ternary battery installations totaled 11.0 GWh, accounting for 14.0% of the total. This segment experienced a 1.0% decline month-on-month but managed a modest 0.9% year-on-year growth. Concurrently, lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery installations hit 67.6 GWh, representing 85.6% of the market share, with a 7.0% uptick from July and an impressive 31.0% surge from August of the previous year.

Looking at the broader picture for the first eight months of the year, cumulative power battery installations reached 489.1 GWh, a 17.0% increase year-on-year. Within this total, ternary batteries contributed 85.6 GWh (17.5% share), growing 10.6% from the prior year, while LFP batteries accounted for 402.7 GWh (82.3% share), up 18.3% annually.

On the production front, the combined output of power and energy storage batteries in China reached 237.0 GWh in August. This marks an 8.8% sequential increase and a substantial 69.8% jump from the same month last year. For the January-to-August period, cumulative production climbed to 1523.9 GWh, representing a robust 57.0% year-on-year expansion.

Sales figures present a similarly buoyant picture. In August, total sales of power and storage batteries amounted to 223.1 GWh, up 20.5% month-on-month and 65.9% year-on-year. Power batteries specifically accounted for 146.8 GWh (65.8% of the total), growing 13.7% from July and 48.5% year-on-year. Energy storage batteries comprise the remainder, selling 76.3 GWh (34.2% share) with a 36.0% month-on-month increase and a staggering 114.3% annual growth. Over the first eight months, cumulative sales hit 1387.7 GWh, a 50.7% annual increase; power batteries contributed 937.2 GWh (67.5%) with 38.7% growth, and storage batteries sold 450.5 GWh (32.5%) with an 83.8% surge.

Export dynamics remained strong, with combined power and storage battery exports reaching 42.4 GWh in August, a 20.4% rise month-on-month and an 87.5% surge year-on-year. These exports represented 19.0% of the month's total sales. Power batteries lead the export volume at 24.7 GWh (58.2% of all exports), up 3.1% sequentially and 64.0% annually. Storage battery exports totaled 17.7 GWh (41.8% share), experiencing a notable 57.2% monthly increase and a 134.2% annual jump. Cumulatively, from January to August, exports amounted to 259.0 GWh, growing 49.6% year-on-year and comprising 18.7% of total sales. This includes 171.4 GWh of power batteries (66.2% of exports, up 53.7%) and 87.6 GWh of storage batteries (33.8% share, up 42.2%).
