Acetone Spot Prices Surge 48% in 30 Days, But Single-Day Dip Recorded

Deep News

Spot acetone prices have settled at 9,325 yuan per tonne as of September 14, reflecting a modest 0.8% decline on the day, according to market data tracking. Despite this daily pullback, the broader trend remains strongly upward, with gains of 23.51% over the past week and an impressive 48.02% accumulation over the last month.

The recent price strength stems from multiple converging factors across the supply chain. Acetone, a critical petrochemical intermediate positioned downstream of phenol and propylene, has benefited from firmer crude oil values and stronger upstream pure benzene pricing, which together have reinforced the cost support structure. Additionally, major producers have raised their official listing prices, while port inventories remain at low levels with tight circulating supply, prompting holders to adopt a firm stance and resist selling at lower levels.

This supply-side discipline, combined with steady downstream restocking for essential needs, has pushed the center of transaction prices progressively higher. The product's fundamental importance cannot be overstated: acetone sits at the crossroads of petrochemicals and fine chemicals, derived primarily from propylene and benzene through cumene-based or phenol co-production methods, and serves as a key solvent while feeding into the production of MMA, bisphenol A, pharmaceuticals, and coatings.

Several listed companies with exposure to this commodity chain have shown notable share price movements over the past 20 trading days. Jiangyin Jianghua Microelectronics Materials Co Ltd (SHE: 300807) leads with a 21.88% gain to 27.3 yuan, followed by Jinneng Technology Co Ltd (SHE: 603113) up 9.33% to 5.04 yuan. Sanfu Holdings Co Ltd (SHE: 603938) has advanced 8.68% to 49.96 yuan, while Hengxing New Materials Technology Co Ltd (SHE: 603276) gained 3.85% to 16.47 yuan and Shanshui Technology Co Ltd (SHE: 301036) rose 2.73% to 18.81 yuan.

Where to focus: It is essential to recognize that commodity price increases do not automatically translate into proportional gains for related listed companies. Individual stock performance remains subject to a complex interplay of corporate earnings, policy developments, and broader market sentiment.
