Robotic Pickers Revolutionize Cucumber Harvesting in Quwo's Smart Greenhouses

Recently, a new type of intelligent harvesting robot has begun "clocking in" across smart greenhouses in Quwo, stepping into the role of modern "new farmers" within these agricultural facilities. This initiative represents a tangible step in the county's push for smart agriculture, as Quwo continues to advance its digital transformation to power the sector with technology. In the smart greenhouse at Zhangfan Village, a notable "new employee" has captured attention with its off-road tires, intelligent arm, and precise recognition system, capable of operating autonomously along a preset route to complete harvesting tasks with remarkable accuracy.

Duan Hui, the technical supervisor at Quwo's Wobo Agricultural Company, notes that the intelligent harvesting robot can pick a single cucumber in under 12 seconds, boasting a success rate above 90% and maintaining damage rates below 5%. Each unit is capable of replacing two to three manual pickers, saving roughly 16,000 yuan in labor costs per greenhouse annually. Over the past two years, a new generation of smart greenhouses has been progressively built and put into operation in Quwo, with all the technology and equipment supported by Wobo Agricultural Company.

These harvesting robots employ multi-modal visual recognition and 3D positioning technology, achieving a positioning error of less than 1.5 centimeters, which allows them to quickly distinguish ripe cucumbers and perform their tasks with speed and precision. Additionally, an intelligent inspection system within the greenhouses conducts real-time monitoring of crop growth, temperature, humidity, and pest conditions, while continuously collecting field data. A smart irrigation system automatically regulates water supply based on soil moisture, delivering precise watering and enabling meticulous management of water and fertilizer resources, all of which helps safeguard the cucumber crop's development.

Gai Zhoujin, a grower, says managing the smart greenhouse is significantly easier than before, as he can now monitor and adjust the temperature directly from his mobile phone instead of having to enter the greenhouse physically. With the new inspection and monitoring systems, he can also keep a clear eye on pest conditions from his device without going inside. He describes the intelligent equipment as a huge help and praises the smart greenhouse for its benefits.

With the shift from manual harvesting to robotic operations, smart equipment is now firmly established within the greenhouses, equipping the facility vegetable industry with a "technological engine." This "new employee" not only saves significant labor and resources but also demonstrates how technology can empower modern agriculture, promoting efficiency and quality improvements throughout the industry.
