Kuwait's state-owned oil company has confirmed it will return to shipping crude through the Strait of Hormuz once the waterway is deemed safe, according to a senior executive speaking at an industry conference on Wednesday.
Imad Kandari, the company's deputy general manager for international marketing, told delegates at the S&P Global energy summit in Singapore that some vessels are continuing to transit the strait, while others are using ship-to-ship transfers as an alternative to maintain reliable customer deliveries.
The executive emphasised that the strategic waterway remains navigable, though he stopped short of declaring it fully secure. He clarified that describing the strait as closed would be inaccurate, even as the company exercises caution in its operations.
A company statement from September 8 noted that crude exports stand at roughly 1 million barrels per day, with a portion of that volume being delivered through ship-to-ship transfers conducted outside the Hormuz region.
