Sep 9, SK Hynix rallied sharply in intraday trading, gaining more than 5% and hitting an all-time high, as its market cap topped $1.4 trillion.

On the news front, S&P Global Market Intelligence projected that SK hynix may announce a new stock buyback program of up to 40 trillion KRW in Q4, while still retaining the capacity to pay generous dividends.

Separately, Mirae Asset Securities raised its target price on SK hynix from 2.8 million KRW to 3.1 million KRW.

On the supply side, KB Securities warned that memory chip inventories at both Samsung Electronics and SK hynix have fallen below 10 days of supply, with DRAM and NAND bit demand expected to exceed supply by more than 10 percentage points next year. UBS further forecasted that the semiconductor upcycle will extend through at least 2028, with Q3 DDR and NAND contract prices expected to rise 22% and 20% quarter-over-quarter, respectively.

The confluence of a tightening supply outlook, surging AI infrastructure investment, and shareholder return initiatives provided broad-based support for the stock.
