Japanese and South Korean equities kicked off the trading day with significant losses, as a broad selloff gripped regional markets.
Tokyo's Nikkei 225 index opened the session down 1.5%, landing at 64,276.82 points, with widespread declines across most listed companies.
In Seoul, the KOSPI composite index opened 3.3% weaker, settling at 6,802.50 points. Heavyweight tech stocks bore the brunt of the downturn, with Samsung Electronics shedding 3% of its value, while SK Hynix plunged 4% in early trading.
