On Monday, Cathie Wood-led Ark Invest executed significant trades, notably selling shares of Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN), Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD), and Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR). Ark purchased shares of Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ:META). These trades come amid a broader market context of fluctuating AI-related stocks and strategic shifts within the tech industry.

The Amazon.com Trade

Ark Invest’s flagship fund, ARK Innovation ETF (BATS:ARKK), reduced its position in Amazon.com by selling 20,000 shares. With Amazon’s stock closing at $253.54, this transaction was valued at approximately $5.1 million.

The decision to sell comes as analysts express concerns over potential earnings impacts due to a slowdown in AI model development, which could affect major tech companies, including Amazon.

The Alphabet Trade

Ark Invest offloaded 38,273 Class C shares of Alphabet Inc. from ARKK. The shares were sold at a closing price of $345.71, resulting in a transaction valued at approximately $13.23 million.

This move aligns with recent warnings from Citigroup, which highlighted potential risks to earnings from a slowdown in AI model development. The analysts pointed out that such a slowdown could affect earnings-per-share revisions, posing challenges to the equity rally’s momentum. The sale of Alphabet shares reflects Ark Invest’s strategic response to these market dynamics.

Citigroup’s analysis, led by Stuart Kaiser, emphasized the potential impact of AI safety concerns on corporate earnings. The team identified several factors, including rising bond yields and surging oil prices, that could pose cross-asset headwinds for stocks. These concerns have prompted Ark Invest to adjust its portfolio, as evidenced by the sale of Alphabet shares.

The AMD Trade

Ark Invest also sold shares of Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. across its ARKK and ARK Next Generation Internet ETF (BATS:ARKW) funds, totaling 20,470 shares. With AMD’s stock closing at $493.41, the sell-off amounted to around $10.1 million.

This move aligns with a broader sell-off in AI-linked stocks, as investors reassess AI infrastructure spending, impacting AMD and its peers like Intel and Nvidia.

The Palantir Trade

Ark Invest’s ARKK fund sold 34,548 shares of Palantir Technologies Inc., with the stock closing at $173.31, resulting in a transaction value of approximately $6 million.

Despite the sale, Palantir’s stock has been on the rise, driven by industry leaders hinting at a slowdown in AI growth, which could reduce competitive pressures on established software vendors like Palantir.

The Meta Trade

In contrast to the sell-offs, Ark Invest’s ARKW fund purchased 10,997 shares of Meta. With Meta’s stock closing at $665.60, this acquisition was valued at approximately $7.3 million.

The purchase follows positive analyst coverage of Meta’s new Muse AI assistant, which has been credited with driving the stock of the Mark Zuckerberg-led company upward. While internal testing uncovered security and reliability concerns, the agent remains a key part of Zuckerberg’s vision for personal superintelligence.

Last week, Ark purchased $28.1 million of Meta stock.
