On the evening of September 13th, a CCTV financial program exposed problems with rural sewage treatment in certain regions, including Jiangsu and Shanxi provinces. The investigation revealed that some village sewage treatment projects were facing issues such as idle equipment, sewage backflow, and costly facilities sitting unused, turning projects meant to benefit villagers into a source of daily frustration for them.

In response to the broadcast, late on the night of September 13th, the People's Government of Tongshan District in Xuzhou City issued a public statement. It noted that provincial and municipal authorities had placed great emphasis on the matter. They promptly directed and guided Tongshan District to establish a joint investigation team, comprising departments including ecological environment, water affairs, and agriculture and rural affairs, to quickly initiate an investigation and carry out rectification efforts.

According to reports, staff had already arrived at the relevant sites on the evening of the 13th to conduct the investigation and begin corrective work. Moving forward, the joint investigation team in Tongshan District will handle the matter based on its findings and remain open to public supervision.
