Xiaomi has launched beta access to its MiMo Desktop client, signaling a strategic shift in how the company positions its AI capabilities—moving beyond conversational chatbots toward a full-fledged desktop productivity environment.

The newly unveiled **Xiaomi MiMo Desktop** application is engineered around the principle of "delivering outcomes rather than answering questions." Users can now generate and iteratively refine documents, spreadsheets, presentations, web pages, images, audio, video, 3D models, and even software engineering projects directly within the conversation interface. During the beta period, approved applicants gain complimentary access to preview versions of two next-generation models.

From Chat Window to Workbench

The distinguishing feature of MiMo Desktop lies in the breadth of its input and output capabilities. On the input side, the product can directly consume multi-format materials such as spreadsheets, images, videos, PDFs, audio recordings, and compressed archives without requiring users to pre-process or convert formats. On the output side, deliverables span documents, tables, slides, web pages, images, audio, video, and extend to 3D models, mobile applications, and software engineering projects.

A typical official workflow illustrates the concept: in a presentation scenario, users feed in mixed materials, and the system handles fact-finding, data organization, narrative structuring, chart generation, and layout design—ultimately delivering an editable deck. In a design context, the system leverages the MCP protocol to control external tools, generating design elements in real time. Throughout the process, users simply articulate their objectives in natural language.

Benchmark data indicates same-session cache hit rates reaching up to 99 percent and cross-session rates up to 95 percent. MiMo-X Series: Preview Phase with Professional Focus

The two models available during the beta—MiMo-X-Pro-Preview and MiMo-X-Flash-Preview—are optimized for professional work environments, with emphasis on complex task reasoning, multi-agent collaboration, large-scale programming projects, office productivity, web design, front-end and interaction design, video editing, 3D generation, music creation, and computer control.

It's important to note that the MiMo-X series remains in preview testing.
