Yumen's Evolution From Oil Heritage to Advanced Materials Hub Sparks New Growth

In the early autumn season, towering cranes and crisscrossing pipelines fill the chemical industry park in Yumen's old urban district, where the 41.1 billion yuan Gansu Juhua high-performance silicon-fluorine new materials integrated project is entering its critical trial production phase. A modern industrial city for new materials has risen from the once-barren Gobi desert, writing a fresh chapter in the transformation of this resource-based city.

As the largest single industrial investment project in Gansu Province, the Juhua silicon-fluorine new materials integrated facility is expected to generate an average annual industrial added value of 32 billion yuan once completed, with projected annual sales revenue exceeding 40 billion yuan, filling a crucial gap in the province's silicon-fluorine new materials sector. Yumen has anchored its "industry-strengthening city" strategy, using leading chain enterprises as the driving force to map out industrial chain blueprints, and has strategically attracted and reserved more than 20 upstream and downstream supporting projects, including Juchen Environmental Protection and Juxiang Fluoroplastics. This effort is building a complete industrial ecosystem spanning from basic raw materials to end products, establishing a silicon-fluorine new materials industrial cluster with strong competitiveness across northwest China.

While cultivating the new materials cluster, Yumen is simultaneously strengthening its green new energy track. Currently, JISCO's 800,000-kilowatt wind power direct-supply project and Bangjin Nandu energy storage station have been successfully connected to the grid, while Juhua's 1-gigawatt wind power project and Yumen Oilfield's 500,000-kilowatt wind power project have completed their main construction phases. Fourteen key new energy projects, including the Changma pumped-storage hydropower station and China Energy Engineering Group's 300-megawatt compressed air energy storage station, are progressing steadily. The multi-energy complementary system integrating wind, solar, thermal, hydro, hydrogen, and storage continues to improve, enabling a coupled development model where green electricity is consumed locally and powers the chemical industry.

In 2026, Yumen plans to implement 49 key industrial projects with an annual planned investment of 17.098 billion yuan. Transitioning from an oil legacy city to a green industrial hub, Yumen continues to optimize its business environment, providing full-cycle support for the construction and operation of major projects. By continuously strengthening its two pillar industries—modern chemicals and new energy equipment manufacturing—the city is driving its county-level economy to upgrade from resource dependence toward innovation-driven growth, establishing a demonstration model for green industrial transformation along the Hexi Corridor.
